The Gaia10 Custopack is here! We are very happy to introduce Gaia10 as a theme for Windows users with a one click solution. You just download the Gaia10 Custopack and an installer created by David Pieron will take care of the rest for you. We had the great chance to interview David and hear more about the Custopack project, one of our new partners.

Hello David! First of all we would like to thank you for your great contribution to Gaia10. With a full featured CustoPack you provide an easy and simple solution to customize Windows 7 with digital art made by gaian artists. Could you please tell us a bit more about yourself and what a CustoPack is?

Hi Marius! Thank you for your welcome, I am really delighted to be able to contribute to the Gaia10 project. My name is David PIERON, more well-known under the pseudonym dlb. I created in 2004 the CrystalXP.net website and I have a great passion for customization. That’s why I created with the help of Aurélien (aka Vermi) CustoPack Tools software.
This software is as it were a combination between WindowBlinds and IconPackager with the difference that CustoPack Tools is entirely free.
So it allows the largest possible number of people to easily install packs containing visual style, backgrounds, icons, cursors… without having particular computing science knowledge.

With the Gaia10 CustoPack we are very happy to provide an all in one package for all Windows 7 users coming across the Gaia Website. By the way, how did you find the Gaia Project?

I discovered the Gaia project by any chance in 2008 on customize.org website. From that time, each year I followed its progress with pleasure and admiration. It’s a project bringing many artists together and which is very supported. Each year, this project reminds us that the nature is beautiful and that we should protect our planet.
Moreover it’s important for me to thank artists for their beautiful creations.

You created such a versatile contribution to Gaia. What motivated you to do it?

I wanted to participate in this project in one way or another. I am not a photographer, a musician or an icons creator so I made what I could do better: a pack!
With this CustoPack, I hope to make accessible the art of Gaian artists to the largest possible number of people and especially to people who don’t want to patch dll and change manually icons!

Thank you very much David! We really look forward to continue our partnership with CustoPack in the future.

Thank you very much Marius! It will be with pleasure that I will continue to participate in the gaia project. Good luck for the future and see you very soon.

During the international Festival for the post-digital creation culture (OFFF) in Paris this year we had the chance to meet an actively engaged artist, Simon Robson. His speech was dedicated to the Coalition of the Willing.

Coalition of The Willing’ is a film that discusses how we can use new internet technologies to leverage the powers of activists, experts, and ordinary citizens in collaborative ventures to combat climate change. Through analyses of swarm activity and social revolution, ‘Coalition of the Willing’ makes a compelling case for the new online activism and explains how to bring the fight against global warming to the people. As the film tackles the subject of online activism, we decided that the logical home for ‘Coalition of The Willing’ is here online. Between the start of February and the beginning of June 2010, Coalition of the willing was released in sections onto this website. Groups of sections were released roughly every 2-3 weeks, with the final completed film going online at the start of June.

This un-conventional release strategy allowed us to build and engage with an audience whilst the film itself was being made. “coalitionfilm” has now become an online environmental brand in itself, with contributors Tweeting and Facebooking every day about issues discussed in the film; environmentalism, open source culture and swarm politics. See the links above to follow coalitionfilm. We are very glad to be with the Coalition and support the movement.

A special “Thank you” to Tim Rayner for the constant and ongoing conversation! Be sure you visit their great Coalitionblog for new updates and possible events in your area.
